Project profile: "NOMAD" | << back to Restoration |
"NOMAD" is a local commercial lobsterboat. This was one of our first projects and we still work on her every now and then. That first winter, though, brought this 36 footer built originally by Sim Davis back from the brink. Our work list that winter included a new main bulkhead, cockpit deck and a change from port to starboard for the helm and hauling station. We also put in a new trunk, windshield and port house side, all the while leaving the housetop in place. All of this took place in a plastic shed that weathered no less than three winter storms which qualified as hurricanes! Needless to say, the working conditions were a bit rough but NOMAD came out of it in great shape. The images below detail some of the restoration process. NOMAD ready for the upcoming work | Down below-a tired main bulkhead showing helm and hauler to port | Trunk gone-sometimes it's just easier |
New trunksides and beams in place. Note original housetop braced in place. | New trunktop installed | Ready for new windshield |
Trunk visor detail to match original | Plywood trunk and windshield getting ready for glassing | New cockpit deck framing |
New main bulkhead and port house side | All glassed and gelcoated | Cockpit ready for lobster |
NOMAD lowered down to the water | She probably won't stay this clean for long | Sitting pretty |
